STEP UP FOR OSTOMY - Join us on October 5th, 2024

Join Ostomy Halifax as we raise funds for Step Up for Ostomy

As the Step Up for Ostomy campaign approaches on October 5, 2024, Ostomy Halifax Society is gearing up to support Ostomy Canada’s mission and help the over 135,000 Canadians living with an ostomy.

Last year, we raised over $4,500, and this year, we would love to continue the trend to support ostomy outreach, education, advocacy, and program development.

A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE FUNDRAISING TIPS

Start by sharing your fundraising goals. Break down your total target into smaller, attainable milestones and share your progress. For example, if your goal is $500, set weekly or bi-weekly milestones leading up to Step Up for Ostomy on October 5th.

Show your commitment. Start off your online fundraising by making your own donation.

Explain how the funds being raised will support essential programs including Youth Camp, Hospital Visitor Training, and educational webinars. Let people know how Ostomy programs have helped you or a loved one.

Make it personal. Explain why Step Up for Ostomy matters to you! Whether you have your own story or have a loved one who has benefited from the services of Ostomy Canada, sharing this with potential donors helps them to feel connected.

For large donations (or really any size) ensure your donors know they can receive a tax- receipt for their donation!  The Just Giving platform issues CRA approved tax receipts on behalf of Ostomy Society Canada.

Each time a milestone is reached, celebrate it on social media or through email. This is a great way to create excitement and raise awareness.

Do a count down to October 5th! Share Ostomy Halifax or Ostomy Canada blog posts and fundraising progress!

Authorization letters are another helpful tool. Authorizations letters from the organization authorizing that you are fundraising on their behalf. With these you can feel more confident to approach your workplace or other businesses to ask for donations (as they may ask for proof). Instead of asking for a donation you may also want to consider asking them to match the total you fundraise - this is best to ask of a business you have personal connections with.  You may also offer to give something in return when asking a business to donate - such as a shout out on your social media platforms.
