Here is an auction request letter that can be taken to businesses or organizations to ask for donations for the auction. Auction Request Letter

CHRISTMAS AUCTION - WHEN & WHERE

This event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 3rd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and we’re hoping to return to our former venue at the Bethune Building. The space is booked, but we will be smack in the middle of respiratory virus season, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the NSHA safety measures like masking guidelines and participant limits. If all else fails, we have a couple of ideas for backup, so stay tuned here for updates!

  • When: Sunday, December 3rd, 2pm-4pm

  • Where: Bethune Building - QEII 1276 South Park Street Halifax, NS (tentative location)

  • Details: Bidding will begin promptly at 2:15pm, so feel free to arrive early to get your paddle, a snack and a good seat!

CHRISTMAS AUCTION DETAILS

  • The Christmas Auction has traditionally been our biggest fundraiser of the year and quite probably the most fun! While we will all sorely miss former host/emcee/auctioneer Joel Jacobson, we are very excited that one of our newest members, Graham Owen has agreed to share his years of charity auction experience and skills as an auctioneer with us!

  • We’re changing things up this year in terms of refreshments too. There will not be a traditional potluck with hot food. Instead, we’re asking folks to bring lighter cold fare and seating will be at tables facing the auctioneer. This way everyone can help themselves throughout and snack comfortably during the auction.

  • We’ll also be holding our ever-popular 50/50 draw so bring some cash if you want to improve your chances with Bill’s nice long armlength worth of tickets!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • If you would like to contribute something in the way of sandwiches, a salad, a fruit or veggie tray, cheese and crackers, sweets and treats or non-alcoholic festive beverages like punch or eggnog we’d be delighted to accept.

  • Our Youth Camp Coordinator, Elaine has prepared a letter that can be used to solicit donations for auction items from local businesses. Elaine has already distributed some hard copies, but you can find a digital copy here {link to the letter}. Feel free to reach out to friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues who might be willing to donate an auction item, gift certificate or service.

  • Do you craft, sew, paint, knit, crochet, bake, cook or otherwise create things with your own two hands? Hand made items prepared with love are extremely popular auction items. In fact, you may have heard (or even witnessed) the tale of a bidding war over a box of homemade fudge.

  • We are looking for volunteers to help set up tables and chairs and lay out auction items on event day and to help tidy up at the end. If you are willing and able to arrive a little early or stay a little late we would be most grateful.
